Indus International, Inc. was established in 1985 when the West
Salem, Wisconsin based micrographic equipment manufacturing facility
operated by the NCR Corporation was closed down.
Twenty five jobs were retained because of the establishment of
the new company. Immediately thereafter, the new company embarked
on expansion of the product line by designing Microfiche and Microfilm
Readers for the United States Defense Department and the Library
market.
In 1986, after qualifying as a MIL-SPEC manufacturing facility,
Indus was awarded its first contract by the Department of Defense
for the manufacture of 14,000 MIL-SPEC Microfiche Readers for the
use of the Defense Department.
Employment in 1987 increased from the initial 25 to 47 people
to fulfill the DOD order for the 14,000 readers. Indus continued
its effort to develop and bring to market new products. A Reader-in-a--Briefcase
was introduced in late 1987. A Jumbo Fiche (special fiche used by
European car manufacturers - VW, BMW and Porsche) Reader was introduced
in 1988.
In 1990 Indus started manufacturing a Library and Geneoloqy Microfilm
Reader for use in libraries and for genealogy study. This product
was designed to meet the ADA (American Disability Act) requirements
for library equipment.
Indus is an exporter of the products that it manufacturers. Microfiche
and Microfilm Readers manufactured by Indus are sold in Europe,
the Far East, South America, and Australia. In many of the markets
these products are sold by large American Corporations such as Eastman
Kodak; 3M, NCR Corporation (now a part of AT&T) and Bell & Howell.
In some countries the products are sold by well established local
dealers of micrographic equipment.
In 1993 Indus was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the
Governor of the State of Wisconsin for being a state leader in the
practice of Total Quality Management.
The microfilm/microfiche market has seen a decline in the last
five years due to the introduction of newer technologies for document
storage and retrieval and information management. Yet Indus has
found niche markets for specialty products and introduced a reader
for the Automotive Paint industry. Now Indus supplies Fiber Optic
Readers to ICI, Sherwin Williams, BASF; Dupont and Akzo Nobel; all
very large manufacturers of automotive paints. To further secure
its future, Indus started to look into the possibility of being
part of the new technology by becoming a provider of Electronic
Information Management Systems.
INDUS MIS. INC. - A WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY IS FORMED
In 1989 Indus planned for its transition to the newer technology
and established Indus MIS, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, to explore
opportunities in the electronic information management field.
In 1990 Indus MIS, Inc. collaborated with a very large European
developer of electronic information management software and learned
a great deal about the up and coming technology that managed information
electronically. The result of this was the decision to develop a
system that was introduced in 1992 and called Virtual Office Information.
Indus' knowledge of Records Management and the availability of the
new technology in electronic information management allowed Indus
to develop a very robust and productivity oriented system.
