Established in 1985, Indus manufactured microfiche readers for the
Defense Department and private-labeled readers for companies such
as 3M, Eastman Kodak and NCR Corporation.
With the advent of electronic
imaging, Indus became the North American marketing arm for a UNIX
optical disk-based archiving and retrieval system called Life*ODIN.
To serve the needs of
the networked PC market, Indus developed a DOS-based system, V.O.I.C.E.
(Virtual Office Information for Corporate Environments). In addition
to the inherent cost benefits of electronic records management,
the system is built on a standard, modular nonproprietary hardware
configuration for the best possible value. V.O.I.C.E., now called
Virtual Office Information, is listed in the GSA schedule for purchase
by federal government agencies. Today, Virtual Office Information
is a MS-Windows based system running on Windows '95, Windows NT,
Novell Netware and other popular network environments.
Almost half of Indus'
manufactured products are exported to the European Economic Community,
South America and Pacific Rim countries.
If every
piece of information in your company were right at your fingertips...
Just think what you could accomplish. But partial information is
only partially valuable; unwieldy documents such as faxes, oversized
drawings and correspondence sometimes elude paper-based or less
sophisticated electronic archiving systems. With VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION, you'll have the means to store everything... from spreadsheets,
letters and invoices to E-size drawings. Microfilm or microfiche.
Aperture cards. Photographs. With the proper interface, even files
from a mainframe, mini, another PC, or fax line. Sound files, video
clips and digital photographs can also be stored in the system.
Anything that can be scanned, and any electronic information that
is imported is accessible and instantly retrievable.
No matter
what business you're in, time is a valuable resource. The cost of
retrieving information can be immense, causing expensive information
bottlenecks that impede your ability to get things done. VIRTUAL
OFFICE INFORMATION lets you spend more time managing your business
and less time hunting for information.
You may not
want to think about disaster recovery, but it's all too easy to
imagine the effect on your business if suddenly, years of financial
records, engineering drawing and other information were irretrievably
lost. Worse yet, an unreliable records system can be damaging to
your company... without you being aware of it and without a catastrophic
event. VIRTUAL OFFICE INFORMATION's rebuild feature writes index
information along with the file on the optical media, so that the
database can be easily restored if lost due to a disk crash or other
disaster.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION is easy to use. Anyone with experience using MS-Windows
word processor programs can become efficient in the use of VIRTUAL
OFFICE INFORMATION within a few hours. As long as your PC supports
the application, the document is there in seconds. Using simple
key words, you can access the document you want and view it in its
native format, with almost no training required.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION emulates a manual filing system. Select a filing cabinet.
Place documents of any kind in a folder. Scanned files coexist with
CAD drawings, ASCII files, spreadsheets or word-processed files,
color images or digital color photographs. Folders archived on optical
media can be reopened as many times as you like in order to add
additional documents to the archived folder. VIRTUAL OFFICE INFORMATION
allows simultaneous access of data by everyone on your network.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION provides a secure, easy-to-use system that doesn't complicate
your everyday operations. In addition to the inherent security provided
by your network, VIRTUAL OFFICE INFORMATION provides group level
security for accessing folders and the contents within it. You'll
have the dependability of industry standard optical media, including
5 1/4-inch (erasable or WORM) and 12-inch (WORM). They can be used
in stand-alone drives or with a jukebox. And you're protected with
VIRTUAL OFFICE INFORMATION's Rebuild Feature... it writes index
information along with the file on the optical media, so the database
can be easily restored. Multiple security levels assure that documents
are accessed only by authorized users.
Low end scanners
such as the HP Scanjet line, medium speed Fujitsu and Vision Shape
scanners and high speed scanners such as the Bell + Howell Copiscan
II are supported. Dual sided scanners are supported. VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION will even scan two sides of a document using a simplex
scanner. Engineering drawing scanners for E-size drawings, including
Contex, WideCOM, Anatech and Houston Instruments, are also supported.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION supports aperture card scanners, microfilm scanners,
and a combination scanner/filmer that allows unattended scanning
at very fast speeds.
Through the
use of OCR software, VIRTUAL OFFICE INFORMATION supports conversion
of raster images to ASCII. This provides the ability to automatically
index the document.
The built-in
COLD module allows importing of COM reports from mainframes, minis
or other PCs. Automatic indexing of the COM report is done by user
defined fields. Output of COLD reports can be merged with an optional
forms overlay module giving the COM report the look of the original
form.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION supports the CCITT Group IV compression for bitonal,
and other industry standards such as CALS, JPEG and color TIFF.
Bar codes
affixed to a document can provide indexing whether placed in a predefined
position, or with random orientation using an optional bar code
indexing module. Most standard MS-Windows printers are supported
for TIFF images.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION is powerful, modular, and uses off-the-shelf hardware.
IT IS A PROVEN SYSTEM. It is scalable, and can expand with the needs
of the user. Add more scanning stations, stand-alone or network
printers or whatever peripherals you need. If you decide to move
from PCs to a UNIX based solution, Indus can provide migration to
the Life*ODIN enterpise-wide solution.
VIRTUAL OFFICE
INFORMATION is available in the form of an API to image enable any
existing software application. It has already been integrated with
county government software systems for Land Management (Register
of Deeds) applications, Zoning, Treasurer, and with records center/records
management software solutions.
